What kind of spider is this?

Hello,

I've just found a spider struggling to climb up my bathroom wall that has a fairly interesting pattern on it's back. Could someone identify it for me out of interest?

That's a missing sector orb weaver, Zygiella. They're very common - it's certainly one of the most common spiders in my garden and occasionally one gets inside the house.

Re your first spider - I can't tell from the picture whether it's adult or not (I would need to see a close up picture of the underside), but it's not a big spider.

The latest one is an Amaurobius species, probably similis, They're considerably bigger than Zygiella. ID pointers in this case include -

different pattern on the abdomen and cephalothorax (the rear and front parts of the body)

        shape of the cephalothorax

        Hope that helps
