This is the 3rd one of these I have found out on my 4th floor balcony in 3 weeks. I live in south west london, uk. I recently put up some reed screening out there and am wondering if this is whats attracting them as I have never had many spiders out there before. I have also seen quite a few babies as well. If someone could please tell me what species this little dude is I would be most grateful. White/creamish markings on back, legs and underneath a pinkish colour. About the size of a 50p? Sorry the photos are not great quality.
The spider in your photo is a male lace weaver, 2 common species are Amaurobius similis & Amaurobius fenestralis...the latter getting it's name from its fondness for living on windows. These are very common spiders, often found on the exterior of homes.
Thank you for your swift reply! You have been very helpful. Is it usual to see lots of these in a short space of time? I have removed them and their webs on sight (I dont kill them, I quite like spiders but was worried these were the poisonous ones all over the media).
