This photo was brought into me as an enquiry - it was found in a house in Torquay. I would hazzard a guess at wet hawk moth minus wingscales but if anyone has a better idea please let me know!
I can't see enough to be 100% but my money would be on the Convolvulus Hawkmoth. I have seen many this late in the year that are completely denuded of scales and with broken wings. As a species that can really top up its fuel tank feeding on nectar they fly on literally until their wings are unfit to carry them or all the flower fuel is gone.
You should notice conspicuously large eyes and should be able to draw out the massive proboscis to confirm.
