What spider is this

I keep comming accross these spiders in my garden and wondered what kind they were? There markings are not like the everyday spider you normally see around the house/garden.spider.jpg

    Hi AndyW,

This looks like a Metellina species, probably M. segmentata.

    Regards, Mark.

        Hi Andy,

There aren't any dangerous spiders native to the UK. It's possible some people with allergies may react badly to some bites, but the worst a healthy person may suffer is localised pain & and feeling off colour for a couple of days (not that these are good things, of course).

But your metellina is completely harmless & probably unable to deliver a noticeable bite.

        Regards, Mark.
