Please can you help to identify if this is a fossilised tooth/bone of some description.
I found this on a beach near Whitby a few days ago.
Sorry I have posted a better picture, I'm very puzzled by what I have found?
does anyone have any clues? thanks Mrs Peach
Sorry Mrs Peach you have an interesting find but I would say you have a piece of foundary slag.
The bubbles in the rock and glazy look on the surface of the 'rock' leed me to to this conclusion, although on your first post the images look a bit different.
How did it get to Whitby?
May be used for road fill or other hard core but longshore drift also transports objects to the south on the Yorkshire coast.
On the Holderness coast I have found some similar material but never as big as this specimen.
Well done on spotting something different.
Thankyou tab fish for your reply.
