I am posting on behalf of my 5 yr old daughter who would love to know if what she found, photos below, on a stretch of beach between Charmouth and Lyme Regis is a fossil or not.
We are not sure if it is a fossil or just an odd shapped bit of beef. My daughter thinks it is a tooth. Could this be the case?
Thanks in advance!
It could be.
It is difficult to be sure without much better close-ups and preferably a look-see under a microscope.
(It could also just be a small piece of rock that looks somewhat like a fossil tooth.)
There are various types of fossil teeth in the rocks at Lyme Regis, including ones looking like yours.
It could be a tooth from an Icthyosaurus.
Had to get a new computer, so i have had a few problems switching to a Mac but I managed to blow up your images and would stick my neck out and say the first image looks very much like a tooth, the other two are what looks like 'broken in half' if you know what I meen.
Very nice find! well done.
