Can anyone identify these critters please?

Hi everyone.

First post here and wanted to ask for some assistance. My sister and I have been getting our house in order and came across these little bugs. P1030526.JPG. P1030524.JPG

We thought they may be carpet beetles but not too sure. We lifted one carpet and there were dozens of seemingly dead adults stuck under it. Since then we have fumigated and used spray and have been hoovering but they seem to be coming out of nowhere. Perhaps hiding in skirting boards/floor boards. Also they seem more active at night. They are getting quite annoying as we have to keep our clothes in bags off the floor and makes us feel unsettled.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I think they're spider beetles (Ptinidae) possibly Ptinus sp. I wouldn't like to guess at species though. See -

In that case perhaps you ought to check out Niptus - the golden spider beetle. Do you think it could be that one? I can't quite tell from the photos. It feeds on leather and other materials.

I'm still inclined to think they're a Ptinus species, not Niptus. As they will feed on some animal materials (e.g. fur) maybe they're detecting odours left on your shoes and rucksack (sorry). The lighter beetles may be the ones that have more recently become adult - that is the case with some other beetles.
