It was found in the Isle of White and I have no idea what this could be, although pinecone has been mentioned in the past. Do you know what it might possibly be?
Well it is not a pine (or other confifer) cone.
Please could you post some more photos of it?
...Specifically: The other side, edge-on, and detail of the main surface of interest.

I don't actually know where about it was found as my grandparents found it, but here are the pictures of side and
I can provide scale picture if needed.
I think it is one of two things:
- mud cracks (yours are small but still within the range of possibilities)
- concretion (does not seem distinct enough from the host rock)
I am confident of neither one, for various reasons, some of which I put above; but I lean towards mud cracks.
