Help! Am having work done in my back garden and this bone was dug up....can anyone help identify it?
I don't think it's human but if it turns out to be then am going to have to ring the Coroner asap!!!
Neighbour said they used to keep pigs here so am thinking it may be a pig joint.
As you can see from the photos, it's quite large..23cm long with a definite ball/socket joint...whether from scapula or hip bit hard to tell. The socket itself is 6-7cm diameter.
Need to know quickly as work due to continue tomorrow!
Thankyou in advance for any answers given.
This is part of a pelvis from an animal that has been butchered (for food). You can clearly see a very flat area on photo3 where the bone has been sawn through. It is the wrong shape to be human and the human acetabulum (hip socket) is around 54mm.
Thankyou John for your swift reply. I've found out from one of my elderly neighbours that many years ago the owners used to keep pigs so I presume it maybe a pig bone. Poor little piggy...
