Toadflax Brocade Caterpillar ....

Whilst doing a little pre autumnal garden clearing I chanced upon a solitary caterpillar on the remnants of a toadflax plant... I have seen them before, but not for a few years. I had no idea what it was but managed to eventually identify it via the Flickr photo sharing site as someone there had taken some photo's of them once before.

I learn that they are beginning to die out after making a small inroad into the country half a century ago so I thought I would take a few photographs and let you know that in one garden in Essex there is at least one still on the go!
