Caterpillar id

Hello everyone,

Any ideas what this caterpillar could be? I found it yesterday on a thick bramble bush.

Thanks for any help.

This looks like either Water Ermine (Spilosoma urticae) or White Ermine (Spilosoma lubricipeda), both caterpillars and adults can be very similar, so depending on where you found it.  My guess will be Water Ermine, they are far more common, and tend to have a wider variety of foodplants, bramble would be right up their ally so to speak.

The photos provided in the links above the Water Erimine seems to fit yours better, however, if you go to UKLeps (brilliant caterpillar and egg site), and look, on the left for the Common Names, you can see that White Ermine also looks like your Photo.

    Hope this helps
