Weevil for ID .

Can anyone help with this beetle ,that I presume is a type of weevil ,seen on a recent trip to Bourdeaux ,France ,please?

    It's a Sitona species of some sort. I don't know if it's possible to take the ID any further from a photo.

        The white markings are tiny scales on the beetle. Different species have different patterns but they can also wear off leaving behind the black cuticle underneath.


        The clumping of scales there might be diagnostic but the key to this group of beetles that I own only covers UK species and relies on some features not visible in the photo (and even with one of these in front of me under a microscope I still find them difficult to ID!).
