I could not find a match for this attactive moth online as their were too many similar ones on the websites I was looking at
Perhaps someone more experienced can see some identifying marks on this photo. I could not get a better shot as it flew off!
it's possibly the Clouded Silver Moth (Lomographa temerata). There are variations in patterning on the wings.
I think this is probably a small dusty wave, Idaea seriata
Its markings can be fairly plain, like yours, or more distinct, like many of the examples here
It is in the list of moths of Italy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_moths_of_Italy_(F-M)).
It is also like Idaea typicata, Scopula incanata and S. marginepunctata (mullein wave),
but those species usually have more-distinct black dots/dashes at the outer edge of the wings.
I am not ruling out those last three species;
please check them yourself and post your thoughts here.
