Is there a good way to help preserve fossil bones?
We found a nice sized fish vertebra at Walton on the Naze at the weekend. It was embedded in London Clay
Theres a lot of good detail in the fossil, but it is quite brittle, and bits break off if it is handled, even gently.
Is there some sort of easily obtainable preservative that we could dip it in to make it a bit more sturdy?
Also, is there any chance of identifying the fish species based on the structure of the vertebra?
