I'd be grateful if someone could ID the deceased insect in the picture. It is about twice the length of a wasp and has yellow legs and eyes and a long spike at the rear.
It is a horntail or wood wasp - one of quite a few species in the Siricidae family.
Your one looks a good match for the giant horntail, Urocerus gigas.
