I have done a lot of searching on the Internet for a Tipula Maxima with similar wing markings and can't find one. Can you point me in the right direction of evidence that this is a Tipula Maxima please.
Just was having a look around at this, and I have to agree, I can't offer anything better after an hour of digging through some online resources however. I did manage to find this photo, which has not been labled with a scientific ID as to species, of an identical Cranefly. It is even on a leaf similar to the one you have photographed.
Its a lovely Cranefly, quite distinctive, but definitely not T. maxima. If you have more photos that you can dig in closer I did find some pdf keys for this here:

Maybe you can get an ID this way.
