Fossil identification help please

Hi, I'm new to the forum Can anyone help me identify this fossil, I was thinking maybe an ant's nest or burrows, or a sponge...? Any help appreciated... It's a flat round-ish rock about 6cm in length

I think you're seeing borings in a piece of rock, possibly limestone.

There are various creatures that can bore in wood and rock; some do it by physical abrasion, some use chemicals. What made these particular holes, I'm not sure.

I also can't be sure of they are recent or fossil (sometimes the material filling fossil borings can be preferentially dissolved- or eroded out).

So... ...not a very useful answer; maybe somebody else here can offer better insight.
