Last summer I noticed these things crawling around in the loft, they are black and easily squished.
They seem to like sellotape, gum and paper and got into a box of jiffy bags.
This is the best photo I could get as they are VERY small ( less than 1mm )
Any ideas what they could be???
thanks for the info.
Our loft is a bit damp, they seem to be coming from the roof. The timbers are probably rotting!
I will try to take a better photo, don't have a macro lens so will use the lens reversed in a toilet roll tube trick...
I was just about to say that I would expect you have a bit of damp there - this could be attributable to damaged flashing on a chimney, gullies or gutters blocked by leaves etc. Collembola will live comfortably in accumulations of leaf mould. Insects can be good indicators of the health of our homes :-)
