These little bugs have just started appearing on a bedroom wall when it is dark. Only about 2-3mm long, look black when on wall but the few I have caught actually are pale brown. They have wings. I would be so grateful for any help.
It is a moth, but I have to ask if you are sure about that '2-3mm long' size...
There are quite a few species of moth that can be called clothes moth, and if yous was a bit larger (4-5mm long) I would be fairly sure it was the case-bearing clothes moth, Tinea pellionella.
Please get back to me about the size...
Thx very much for your thoughts, Mike. I confirm the size is only 2-3mm. I am wondering now if they could be psocids, book lice? When I moved into the house, I noticed that this room has a condensation problem and I had books and papers around until recently. A local authority pc officer is coming on Monday so I will be interested to see what he thinks.
Thanks for your help. As soon as he saw the photo the officer said it would be clothes moths. He looked at the carpet and found 2 white cases which confirmed it. Luckily by hoovering immediately that I saw a few insects last week and by spraying the room twice, they now seem to have gone completely. It did not get to what could be called infestation. I am a bit puzzled though as it seems that clothes moths are generally about half an inch long whereas the insects I saw were definitely much smaller, only 2-3mm.
Thanks also to Daniel who replied to my post.
