Can anyone help with the identify of this moth?

unknown moth.jpgThis moth was recently taken in a moth trap in Pembrokeshire, west Wales and, so far, I have not been able to identify it. Can anyone help?

    Hi Ron,

Wow that is an interesting moth, I've had a good dig around and can not find anything quite right for it, I'll be very curious to see if someone can ID it,  as to what it is.

I have to get on with proper work right now but will have a look at some of my european resorces later if this is still unanswered.  In the mean time can you give us an approximate size, as photos can be deceiving.

Well I've looked at everything I have here, European and N. American just incase and I can not find anything quite like this moth.  I have a gut feeling it is an obscure variation of a Common Marbled Carpet (Chloroclysta truncata) as there are a few photos floating around the internet that with a bit of imagination you can see where this might fit in.  Its either that or someone has photoshoped this moth and is testing you...lol

I hope someone knows the answer, I shall wait on pins and needles!
