Found this tree on a walk yesterday. It is the size of a large oak. It was as you can see from the photos right on the edge of an estuary. I cant seem to find which tree it could be. It does have some sort of small berry which you can see in the photo on the left if you zoom in. But I didnt see any on it ysetrday. Just lucky to have caught a couple in the photo. Thank you for your help in advance as this is driving me nuts. Leaves look like an older holly tree when the leaves stop being spikey but I thought wrong. Now at a loss. Best guess now from me is a magnolia but pfffff help.
How's about holm oak, Quercus ilex?
There are some related hybrids, but the species itself is the most likely (assuming you are in the UK).
Mike thank you so much. Spot on. I have just had a read. And yes the one thing I noticed was that it did have withered catkin type things on it. Forgot about that till I saw it in the link. Brilliant and puts my mind at rest now. Found in the med but also here in the Uk and as its Cornwall and on the coast - bang on answer. Really chuffed so thank you.
