I found this in my back garden sitting on the step. I have never seen anything like it! Could some one identify it and tell me what it is please? I'd be very interested to know what this hairy beetle/bee thing is?
I think this is summer chafer, Amphimallon solstitiale.
(Since the hairs on the wing cases and thorax are about the same length, it is not A. ochraceus.
And since it is past spring, it is not Melolontha hippocastani; that may be confirmed/not by your location since M. h. is not found south of the Lake District.)
