Excuse the poor photo quality. I went in my loft today to retrieve something only to be met with a considerable buzzing suggestive of a nest.
One bee followed me down the hatch (photo in the glass) and I later found one on the drive that had sadly expired.
I'm basically hoping to rule out any species that may pose any structural risk etc.

Could be a Tree Bee.
Yes, I think they're Bombus hypnorum. They tend to nest in trees, and higher up places than other bumble bees.
Thank you for these replies, this concurs with two other identifications elsewhere (tree bumblebees) - so that's put my mind at rest that there's no reason why I can't just leave them to it in our loft!
