I was walking home from work when I spotted this strange looking leaf on a tree.
I'm not sure what the tree is. They appear on a fair few leaves but not all. They look like little buds growing out of the leaf. Could it be a disease or even eggs of some sort?
The tree is a lime (also called linden), Tilia.
The leaf has an infection of lime nail-gall mite (Eriophyes tiliae).
The galls can become bright red
Ah! Thankyou very much for the info :) I was just curious about it because it caught my attention.
...Just as Isaac Newton was curious as the falling apple caught his attention...!
