Found this bone in a washed out bank at the edge of the woods behind my house. I thought it had to be a pelvis, but after googling skeleton pictures of every animal I could think of, I am completely stumped. It isn't long and narrow like the pelvic bones of most animals.
It's possible that it's only a fragment - there are 2 rough outer edges, but I can't tell whether the bone was broken or simply worn down from the weather, scavengers, etc.
I live in Vermont, and this was found where the woods meet a farmer's field. So it could potentially be from ANY animal...a wild animal (deer, coyote, raccoon), house pet (dog, cat), farm animal (cow, pig, goat, etc.). I have no idea.
Note: I was a little too excited cleaning the mud out of the central hole, and accidentally broke off 2 little protruding pieces of bone
Anything you can tell me is appreciated
