Can anyone tell me more about the insect that is commonly known in Guyana (South America) as the '6'o'clock Bee' ?
I have never seen this bee/insect yet, but it makes a pronounced hissing noise which it builds up to and then sustaines for about 30 seconds before it then moves on to another tree to repeat the sound. It really IS possible to assume the evening hour by this animal.. as it only seems to make this noise at approx 6pm or just after!!??
Along with the parrots flying home to their tree-top beds, the '6'o'clock Bee' seems to be South America's 'chil/beer-time' siren!
