I have noticed sycmaore tree leaves with various blotches.
First this picture of the underside of a leaf.
And on another tree nearly two weeks later than the first.
Is this some sort of leaf miner? The blotches do look a little as though they are eggs - butterfly or moth perhaps?
This are erineum galls - the work of Eriophyes mites, probably E. spilomerus - a common call mite about a fifth of a mm long.
The erinea usually get darker as they mature. Tree growth is not usually affected.
Many thanks Mike.
