Can anyone ID this insect please? It was photographed today in the the Northwest UK. It was approx 8 mm long without the antenna.
Is it harmful to plants?
This is an insect in order Neuroptera (lacewings, etc.), family Osmylidae. A kind of lacewing/antlion. Adults catch insects in flight, larvae feed on insects on the ground, so they protect plants, do not harm them.
