Does anybody happen to recognize this Spider? It lives in a metal building that has been insulated & walled in with older wood. The spider is actually more brown than black but this is the best picture we could get in the lighting we had. There was a discoloration of some sort on the back, but could not get close enough to see it. the upper half of the body had hair, but the butt or bottom half was smooth & the legs were brown hairy. Any suggestions?
This must be a Black Lace Weaver Spider, Amaurobius ferox.
I'm not sure though, so let's see what others think about this.
It does appear to be VERY similar to the Ferox, but the rear was definitely smooth & had no hair or fuzziness anywhere but the legs. I keep finding a picture of one that seems to have the smooth adbomon. Jaguarondi, if you can explain to me how to locate the cephalothorax I will try to get a picture of it next time we see one....
