Is this just a rock or part of an ammonite or nautilus?

Found this at Warden Bay on the Isle of Sheppey yesterday. Comments gratefully received.

  • I don't think it is a fossil.

    Yes, the curvature suggests an ammonoid, but there is no signs of the chambers (camerae) or sutures (where the septa (dividing walls) meet the outside). Inside, there is suggestion of divisions, but I think these are just cracks (filled with what looks like calcite); there seems to be a concretionary component to the specimen.

    I do not have a good explanation for its curved shape.
