This concretion is like a pot with a lid that fits on, what is it made of? I can not find much info about iron concretions from the Sahara.
I think it probably is a concretion, though it looks unfamiliar to me. However, the last time I saw iron ore in the Sahara it was while flying over a mine, so I didn't get a close look!
Concretions can be hollow, but most are not.
They can be of almost any age since rocks began forming on earth. They are not like fossils; they do not show evolution (and maybe extinction) over time.
Some folks collect concretions, though rarely just concretions. They are of general geological interest, and some are more interesting / attractive than others.
