This bug was found in Eastern Burma,Mabout 100 miles north east of Mandalay between Hsipaw and Lashio on the way to China.
It was on a bush in a very rural semi agricultural area.
Initially it appeared lake a Jasmine flowewr until on close examination it was dozen of these anilmal all moving.
When the plant was touched they hopped off onto the ground and then hopped about in the grass.
We saw several such "colonies".
One photo shows the bug on the rubber ferrule of a walking stick. The daimeter of the ferrule is 30 mm.
Someone said that it would make a very good wedding hat if it were larger
Can abnyone identify it please?
probably the nymph of a Flatid bug. See -
That looks spot on
I note it is called Plantopper - it has just hopped 100 miles from Yunnnan into Burma
Cute aren't they? I'd like to know what purpose all those strands serve.
