Hi I am new to this, but I have found an unusual object in a fossil. I found the fossil when I was little and have had the fossil for years now. I would really like to know what's inside the fossil and was wondering if someone could tell me where to go to find out. I live in the North East, near Durham so somewhere in this area would be great. To me it looks like there is a ring and a tooth inside the fossil but to be fair i'm not entirely sure.
What you have there is an Ammonite. Essentially a squid with a spiral shell. It appears to be in a nodule. The gold ring /tooth are actually parts of the Ammonite exposed, the rest will be in the rock. The first picture looks like an imprint of another Ammonite on top of it.
