Hi I found this at a bottom of a cave I found in Lincolnshire last summer, It was just laying there at the bottom of the cave( about 15-18 meters underground) I might have even been the first person down there as the entry is just a hole in the ground in the middle of the woods which I stumbled accross by accident and having heard the noise of water falling comming from deep in the hole and being a bit of a nutcase, I decided to get my rock climbing equipment and go exploring, below is a picture of my reward mesuerments of the face are about 25 cm height, 30 cm wide and the rock is about 20-25 cm deep depending on the part some of the sections of the bottom part are filled with a milky crystal that if you put a torch to from the bottom it will actually slighly shine through and its quite heavy, just wandering if anyone could shed some light about what it is and abouts its value( not being funny but if it is worth a lot I don't really won't it on a table in the hallway with kids running around), from what i gathered and managed to find on the internet i think its a ammonites but i don't have a clue on the subject, so looking for some confirmation, any questions about the piece or the cave I'll be happy to answer if the weather keeps I'm planning to go there again within the next couple of weeks so might be able to post a video of the cave(forgot batteries last time ) or if somebody wants to join under there own responsibility ( I am as far from being a proffesional as possible, and quite often have been refered by others as reckless and dangerous ) your welcome
p.s posted same post in bones and etc.
thanks for your help.

Well it is definitely an ammonoid, probably an ammonite.
The crystal is probably calcite, though if it really is heavier than 'normal', it could be barites.
Value - no idea; anybody?...
(I take it you didn't find it just like that... - with a sawn and polished (or at least wetted) flat surface.)
thats one of the funny things about it I found it just like that, I dont think anybody would have planted a fake there to take the piss as it is well awkward to find and even more to get to ( took me about 3hours to climb out the last 3 meters) admitedly I was cold and tired as there is a lot of ground water flowing through there which I thought could have polished it but as I said I don't have a clue about theese things
Thanks for the feedback Mike
Well that's very strange.
If it hadn't been some while ago that you found it, I'd think somebody was playing an April Fool joke.
