We have just started to strip the wallpaper off walls of a house that is in need of renovation and have noticed this morning the ceiling is crawling with lots of little bugs litterally hundreds - we initally thought it was a bedbug infestation but are not really sure?
I have taken a photo on my phone, after catching one on sticky tape, not a great picture, I am charging my normal camera at the moment to take a better one if it can't be identified from this one. its next to a eating fork to show size.
thanks for the info mike, I have posted some more picture, there is lots of furniture in the room and we found a place where they seem to be coming from - an old wooden bed frame - although they seem to be only in one area and there is lots of little holes like they are eating the wood? have posted a couple more pictures - they really are tiny, hardly visible to the eye.
Doesn't get me much further, I'm sorry to say.
There are so many types of mite, inhabiting a wide range of niches and consuming a wide range of foods. because of that, even if you were to give us good close-ups, there would probably be some doubt in any ID we could give.
You will obviously want to know what to do about the critters. For that reason, I suggest you:
a. Get your local environmental health officer to visit. Hopefully he/she will be able to both identify the species and tell you how to deal with them
b. Buy some acaricide. See this article for some guidance - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acaricide. Be sure to buy an acaricide intended for an infestation not an infection.
If (a) might take a while, I suggest you do (b) anyway.
