Age/nature of this fossil?

My daughter found this on the beach at West Bay, Dorset, under the cliffs beneath Burton Bradstock.

Despite looking like a hand, I guess it's actually a fossilised shell, but I wondered whether anyone here would be able to put an approximate age on it, and confirm that it is a shell. Is the darker coloured part, the 'filling', just mud?

Thank you very much.

I can give you an age to the fossil (presuming it is from the cliffs not washed in from the sea):  Jurassic Aalenian-Bathonian stage (180-165 milllion years ago)

As for an ID it is most probably a type of Bivalve.
