I just found this little girl (or guy IDK) wondering around in my backyard and i picked him(her) up and put it elsewhere because i have cats and i dont want them to eat it or get bit by the snake. First i took a picture for recognition in case another one comes around.
I know its venomous because of its caracteristics, but i want to make sure what kind of snake it is.
Can you tell us what part of the world your backyard is located?
If it was found in the UK, it is probably potentially an adder (Vipera berus) as it is our only native species of venomous snake, and it definitely isn't a grass snake (non-venomous). However, the zig-zagging markings are, as far as I am aware, unusual for the species (from what I can tell, they are normally joined all the way along the body, rather than broken up like in your photo).
Any experts care to chip in?
If this was photographed in Britain, it was an escaped pet. Something like a Corn Snake, although I don't know about the zig-zag on its back... Definitely not an Adder (Vipera sp.)
Oh, Venezuela! Do you also have Orange-winged Amazon Parrots? I love them. Anyway, I think your snake was a cat-eyed snake (Leptodeira annulata), which seems to be common there. Compare with the two photos on this page (you have to scroll down or use the search function to find them).
hell yeah, i've had like 4 those parrots but my cats ate one of them and since that incident we didn't have more. there are A LOT of them flying around my house... About the snake. That seems about right, it was a leptodeira annulata.
Thanks for the info.
