Taken in the English Channel in January this year
From a distance, initially thought this to be a Little Grebe
On closer inspection of the photo's, wondering now if it could possibly be a Little Auk?
Any help with ID appreciated
The photo's are terrible - long distance & cropped - but I'm hoping someone may be able to ID by the overall jizz of the bird ...
I think this was a Razorbill (Alca torda) in winter plumage. Little Auks have larger black mask over the eyes going well behind and below the eye, while in Razorbills the patch stays just below the eye and doesn't go much behind it.
Thanks Florin - I guess a Little Auk was too much to hope for!
