So i was wondering if you could help me. Me and my fiancee are getting bitten by something. We have de-fleaed all the animals (cats, dog and rats), used sprays on soft furnishings, bought traps, flea bombs, used insect repelling cream, etc. We bought bug ''traps'' to try and see what could be biting us. We really have no idea what could be doing this and my poor fiancee is getting eaten alive. We caught this little guy in the trap and was wondering if you could identify what this bug is? Is it a flea, bedbug, mite or something completely different? Another question is, could this bug be biting us? (i dont know if this makes a difference but the bites are itchy)
Thank you so much for your help, its greatly appreciated. Kazzii x
It is a weevil. There are a lot of species, can't say which from these photos.
They won't bite you or cause itching (unless there's some specific allergy in play).
I can't suggest what might be causing your biting problem, but if the problem persists, call your council and see if you can get an inspector visit. Your doctor might also be able to give some guidance upon seeing the nature of the bites/rash.
Thank you Mike. Thats interesting to know, ill tell this to my fiancee. I think going to the doctors may be best, as they are biting him all over his arms, legs, back. Hopefully the dr can shed some light on what this could be.
Thank you again, Kazzii x
It looks very much like you have either grain weevils of Maize weevils, neither of which will bite.
If you have more than one weevil in your home check any cereal type food you may have, cheap and cheerful bird feed is often the source of infestation of the 'Grain Weevil' species.
Perhaps you could post a photograph of some of the bites on your fiancee as some insects give very typical bites. Perhaps someone may be able to identify the species in question that way.
Best wishes Lewis
