I'm pretty sure this is a wasp beetle, but why have I been finding them all over the house for the past couple of months? Should I be worried? It's an old house with lots of timber beams, but also a wood burner so I have logs in the house too. Any help appreciated!
These beetles live as a larvae in dead wood over the winter period. They normally appear around May to July.
As you store your wood for your wood burner inside, it is possible that the temperature of the house has risen enough for the insects to believe that spring has arrived earlier. As to them being a problem , I dont believe so. They normally live on flower pollen. Females will also eat small insects. In which case they may be beneficial.
