Hi all, merry christmas
I have recently been inundated with these little... things, ive no idea what they are but they seem to be attracted to electrical equipment - theyre on my pc monitor, keyboard, laptop and pc case. theyre on more or less most other things. They vary in size. the one in the photo is only about 0.25mm long but ive seen them up to about 1mm. They dont seem to bite but under the microscope they appear to have lots of moving mouthparts and at least 8 legs (hard to tell as it was moving a lot)
Its not the greatest picture (taken with a kids microscope using a camera phone) but any help identifying it and then best course of action to eliminate them would be super oh, the bottom of the photo is the end with the mouth parts.
It's some sort of mite. I can't help beyond that, except to say be wary of trying to ID it from photos on the internet as there may be several possible species, given that general appearance (pale with long hairs)
I have just discoverd where they have been coming from. My ceiling! I dont know why it hadnt occured to me before but the ceiling, which has always been off colour due to the room being naturally cold and damp as it has 3 outside walls, was covered in these little mites. A thorough vacuum and light damp dust later and they are now gone (hopefully) and my ceiling is more or less white... ish.
Bed bugs, lice and dust mites are all totally different kinds of creatures! Bugs and lice are two completely different groups of insects and mites are arachnids, similar to spiders, not insects at all. The pic definitely looks like a mite of some kind.
Having vacuumed the ceiling and any electrical item theyve been seen on they seem to have gone. I dont know where they came from originally. They seemed to like warmth they were mainly around the light fixtures on the ceiling and the warmer electrical items - monitors etc.
They havent been seen for some weeks now and the room has been totally cleaned top to bottom.
Thanks for helping try to identify them im still curious but theyre gone and thats the main thing.
