Somebody please tell me what this is

I took this picture at a park in south Texas in 2007. There were 2 of these things flying around the one in the picture climbed onto my hand, I felt a buring sensation and I, by refelex, smashed it. I have sent the picture to other website and I have never gotten a reply. Any takers?

    Hello,

hard to tell with the few details visible on the photo, but I think this could be a woolly aphid (Insecta - Hemiptera - Aphididae - Eriosomatinae).

Now for the genus and species, I can only have a wild guess, possibly a woolly apple aphid (Eriosoma lanigera).

But keep in mind that other genera within the subfamily Eriosomatinae look very similar to this one, so it really only is an exemple rather than an ID.
