Fossil Tooth or Awesome Rock?

Found this on vacation in Costa Rica (Pacific coast). It is worn from tumbling in the sand, but the surface feels more enameliod than the root.

Any clue what this might be?

Hi Jonas! I'm pretty certain that this is an "awesome rock", as you put it, rather than a tooth. In fact, I think it's quite likely agate, and the 'root' of the 'tooth' is the volcanic rock the agate formed in.

Notice how irregular the overall shape of the tooth is, as well as the join between the tooth bit and the root bit.

It's still an absolutely lovely find though. Well done!

    Gethin
