Is this a Walnut Orb-Weaver?

I saw this hanging on a web from the side of my land rover last night in Haworth, West Yorkshire. Would like to know what it is.

It was around 3cm long with well defined body. Legs and body were shiny, not hairy.

    Hello there.

I'd say you were spot on, Walnut Orb Weaver Nuctenea umbratica. A widespread but largely nocturnal spider that remains often unseen. Not having been bitten I can't really say but they do have a reputation for biting when handled without much provocation.

    Best wishes Lewis
