Yes! I have a wood basket in the corner of the kitchen next to a burner - do you htink they are coming from the logs?
Shall investigate further!
Many, many thanks!
have just tried to find out more info on Hylasinus varius - proving difficult! should I panic! is my kitchen infested? I also have a wooden beam which has recently been re-set into the ceiling - might they have come from there?
How do I eradicate them if they are in there?
Sorry to sound so panicked!
As far as I am aware they are pretty much restricted to ash - logs of which are probably in your log basket. Their presence will be given away by little mounds on fine wood dust spilling out of their emergence holes. I strongly favour the log basket rather than any other timber as these feed just under the surface of bark and are not borers of sawn timber as far as I know. I guess if you take the log basket outside for a few days and see if this resolves the problem.
Thank you sooomuch! have removed log basket (an old ash tree from the garden was in there!) and shall see what happens next! Am glad to hear that they probably won't settle in my oak floor or beam!
Shall let you know the outcome!
May thanks again
P.S. - don't suppose you know anything about carpet moth do you? This year, I have had an infestation! Tiny moths in the baathroom were the first clue and then lots of empty white cocoon like cases coming out of carpet - found especially under things (like the furtniture).
Has there been an influx this year? How do I get rid of them apart from hoovering constantly?!
