I saw 2 of these in my bathroom around my Window then another on the window sil I suspect came in afew nights ago when I opened the window for the 1st time since moving in afew months ago the first got squished the other 2 stuck to selotape for I'd I'm really scared I've let something in and now its reproducing my Mrs is bleaching the bathroom now but we would really like to know what it is or what it will be thank you for reading the picture may not show unless using a mobile phone as its flickr.
A quick description is around 2-3mm by 1.5mm at most very hairy lightish brown on top and lighter Brown / yellowish underside none of them moved and I proded one I'm not positive but one in the tapelooks to have wings but it could look that way cos of the tape.
It looks like the larva of a carpet beetle.
The carpet beetle larvae start to feed as soon as they hatch. They are carrot shaped and heavily covered with setae especially in their posterior end. The number of instars differ from 5–11 and in some cases reach up to 20. The black carpet beetle, Attagenus megatoma, larvae may grow up to 1/2 inch (12 mm) and be yellow to brown in color. Other types of carpet beetles are regularly 1/4 to 1 inch (6 to 25 mm) in length and covered with dark setae. Certain species have distinctive tufts of setae extending from their posterior end. These beetles are attracted to soiled fabrics and crevices where dead insects may serve as a food The larvae of the carpet beetle are often referred to as "woolly bears" or "buffalo moths".

Thank you very much well I've found 3 larvae that appeared to be dead or they move incredibley slow I proded one and I didn't see it move would it be possible they came thru the window altho its on the 3rd floor or 2nd floor with the ground floor being the 1st floor. We've spent most of the day bleaching everything and I will be filling all skirting board gaps we don't really have carpets tho just one room is carpeted the rest either wooden or viynal.
Can I attract them out with anything I do have a baby and really feel sick at the thought of these crawling around our clothes or setting up nests in the nursery as that room is fully carpeted will insect spray kill them
Thank you so much for your reply it means a lot to us.
First of all check there are no dead birds up the chimney, or organic stuff stored anywhere that could be a source of food for the larvae.
Then calm down, they will do no harm to you or your baby. See "Big Ma's" comments on an earlier post.....
Ok its been a short while now and altogether I've found mayb 7 total always in the same area of the same window in our bathroom I've gone mad cleaning and with polyfiller our house has more cracks and gaps than you would believe. I havent seen one now for afew days I've laid down bug traps which are still empty and I've also sprayed carpet glue in places I suspected they'll be hiding not convenient but if there's eggs at least there stuck I hope anyway lol we still haven't seen an adult there always 2-3mm and all have been found within a 10 inch area I've flamed the whole window quickly with a lighter.
I am honestly petrified of bugs when I can't see them or know where they'll be like I can grab a huge spider with my hand but if I miss and it darts away I cannot rest until I've caught it probably cos their attracted to our breath and so on.
The reason I'm now here is I've just been watching big bang theory and they made reference to a anal bug that lives up there immediately I started googling thinking omg omg and I saw something about these carpet lava now I'm not sure if there the same but I had to come and ask because that would make me absolutely petrified ide be putting plasters and other weird methods of keeping my bum free the good news is I don't feel that I have that problem but is it possible in England to have anal bugs I can't believe I've gone through 26yrs and only had ants move in to our house.
I really hope there's no bugs here that live up there that would drive me mental I'm the type that just hears bug and I'm iching.
Oh I should add until two months ago I had a large tropical aquarium that I started to see very small flys in the hood they could be a food source I never saw more than a couple at any time but there was a couple dead on the bathroom window sil but not near the bugs I've found but the oppersit side of the window. I can't be sure but I think if only I didn't open that window I wouldn't have any problems cos that was the 1st time we've opened it since living here but my bath was scorching hot and our garden is full of huge bushes being a big garden plus neighbors huge fern trees.
Last year around this time I was having a cigerette on the door step when I felt something big and fairly heavy land on my shoulder I saw what looked like a bat but being dark it just looked like a black ball I freaked out screching like a girl.( I'm supposed to be the man lol ) telling my Mrs get it off with something I was panicked really bad I finally slapped it and killed it the next day I had the biggest biggest bug I've ever seen in England I still don't know what it was about the size of a mouse I'm not joking a reddish brown color ewww.
Wow, you're madder than a box of frogs, calm down. There is nothing insect wise in the UK that will do you or your family as much harm as your cigarettes will.
