I'm looking for someone who knows a lot more about bugs than me! I think this seems a good place to start. Can anyone help identify these wee guys?
The larvae tend to be found on the kitchen (lino) floor and on carpeted areas. The black bugs I have found mostly on flooring, also coming out of a little gap where my kitchen wall tiles and worktop meet.
I find one every 4 to 5 days, they don't seem to be doing any type of damage so have not been much of a pest. But today I found two of them in my fridge! In the plastic egg tray lying on their backs, unable to get up because of the slippy surface, with their legs kicking about in the air. I cannot fathom how they got in there. I have gutted the entire fridge to make sure it's sparkling, and my food needs replaced so these bugs have to go! First things first, I need to know wht they are. Does anyone know?
Apologies if these are not actually beetles and I have posted in the wrong forum.
I'm pretty certain that the beetle belongs in Tenebrionide, but which species it is is hard to tell. It might be Tenebrio molitor (11-14 mm) or a Tribolium sp. (5-6 mm) - size is impossible to tell from the image. They are household pests and live on flour and other grain products, preferrably under somewhat damp conditions. So, if I were you, I would check my larder...
