Jaguarondi suggested in my "Two spiders" thread that the “potato spider” I saw was Enoplognatha ovata. Here is a picture I was unable to add to the original thread. It certainly looks like Internet pics of E ovata, or certainly a species of Enoplognatha. They seem not always to have the red or pink stripe.
Perhaps you could confirm?
Thanks once again. the spider was trying to run away, so this shot is all I managed to get. Why don't the legs look right for E ovata? I had no idea there were so many species of spider in the UK till trying to identify a few! some of the differences are so subtle.
Would the size help identify, or are all similar spiders about the same size? I would put it at about 3mm, no more than 4. Even using my camera macro setting it was tiny compared to the original field of view of the shot.
I assume it's a female?
