Dragons and a damsel taken in my garden recently....
1. Possibly Common Darter??
2. Possibly Common Blue??
Wow, what beautiful pics.
Trouble with these chaps is that I always find my photos have missed the crucial id mark. The trick is to know the differences first then id is normally fairly easy.
Pic 1 looks like a Yellow-winged Darter (sympetrum flaveolum) on account of the orange tint to the basal wings.
Pic 2 looks like a Azure Damselfly (coenagrion puella). To tell these apart from Common Blue you need to check out the distinctive markings on segment one.
Pic 3. Another stunning photo, but you'll have to wait for an expert to help with this one.
Take a look at http://british-dragonflies.org.uk/home for more info.
Thanks again for the Ids, Yellow-winged darter is really interesting and I think the reason why I couldn't quite match it up to other darters!
I had an idea that this may be an Azure Damselfly but held out hope for something different, these seem to be really common around here for some reason?...
There is another picture that I took recently which I've id'd as a common darter but I'm now doubting this so I will post that up later to get yours/others expert view I think!...
