Just this morning I was bemoaning the fact that I don't see enough false widows at home, I saw one at work, I saw a few at my old house, but was frankly feeling a little left out with the latest rash of spottings. Then, this afternoon, I'm looking out of my window and there is the tiniest, but perfectly formed steatoda nobilis...a smaller version of yours...

...I couldn't be happier! :-) They tend to stick to their webs and are pretty docile. They are becoming common right accross the South. There's not much that you can do, as there are bound to be more in the vicinity. A bite might not be pleasant but it's not dangerous, nor likely to cause any long lasting effects & this only usually happens as the spider's last resort against getting crushed to death in clothing. So I'd say, "take the same action that you'd take if you saw a bee in your garden" - E.g. none.
